SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — As schools across South Dakota prepare to re-open in August, people from all facets of the education system are planning as best they can and hoping for a safe return of students, teachers, and staff to the classroom.
To better understand what people at all levels of the public education system are going through, News Watch in early July contacted several South Dakotans facing the prospect of heading back to school amid a pandemic. The mother of a boy eager to return but who has high-risk illnesses; a veteran teacher who cares for her elderly parents and worries about infection spread; administrators who hope to provide a safe environment for all — they and others are heading into the school year with big concerns and big choices to make.
