SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Social justice activists gathered on the steps of Sioux Falls City Hall Wednesday to demand that a police video of a recent arrest be made public.
“The death of George Floyd has shown us that video recordings are one of the only mechanisms we have to determine what truthfully and honestly happens between police officers and civilians.”
Amateur video on social media shows officers shouting obscenities and using force to get an assault suspect and others out of a car.
Police say they will not release the video because it is part of the ongoing investigation of the use-of-force case.
The activists also demand an investigation of how the police wound up serving a warrant on the wrong man at a house. They say that Briona Taylor in Kentucky died under similar circumstances. No one died in Sioux Falls. Police say they just made a mistake and went to the wrong house. They were serving warrants connected with the violence at the Empire Mall.
The activists say they will also have other policy proposals for city government concerning police accountability and transparency.
