SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Police are investigating two shootings yesterday (Monday) on North Prairie Avenue.
Three people were wounded in the first incident yesterday afternoon.
A man was killed in the second shooting later that evening.
The police think they are connected.
In the shooting Monday afternoon at a house at the northeast corner of 1st Street and Prairie Avenue, Authorities believe a 30-year-old man was the intended target. He was shot in the face. An 18-year-old woman was shot in the arm and a 52-year-old woman was shot in the head. Detective Mike Colwill says all three are in the hospital but are expected to recover.
Then in the evening, police responded to a call to a house at 2nd Street and Prairie Ave. They discovered Tracy Saboe, 40, dead, with a single gunshot to his head. Colwill says there was an altercation between the suspect and the homeowner before Saboe was shot.
Colwill says they believe the shooting at 2nd and Prairie (800 N. Prairie) occurred first and then the shooting at 1st and Prairie. The first shooting at 2nd and Prairie was a “mistake,” with the 30-year-old man at the 1st and Prairie home the intended victim. Colwill says the men had a disagreement.
Colwill says a 9mm pistol was used in both incidents.
The suspect in the shootings is Alton Ray Bear, 45, from Sioux Falls. He is in custody and was caught about an hour after the report of the shooting Monday afternoon. Bear will be charged with murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault, a felon with a weapon, and a number of other charges.
