SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Chairman of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, Harold Frazier, is calling for the removal of the faces from Mount Rushmore.
Frazier says the Lakota look upon the presidents and see the faces of the men who “lied to, cheated, and murdered innocent people.”
Frazier has penned a public letter arguing that the faces of Jefferson, Washington, Lincoln, and Roosevelt should be removed. He also seems to refer to the July 3 Fireworks and President Trump’s visit.
“We are now being forced to witness the lashing of our land with pomp, arrogance, and fire, hoping our sacred lands survive.”

The Chairman of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, Julian Bear Runner, has also called for the removal of the faces from Mount Rushmore. The Lakota consider the Black Hills sacred ground.
About 7,500 people won lottery tickets to see President Trump and watch the fireworks, the first at the National Memorial in years because of forest fire concerns.
