SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A short video on social media shows Sioux Falls police officers using force during the arrest of an assault suspect.
Chief Matt Burns says the video will be reviewed as part of the investigation that is routine in such cases.
He says the brief video doesn’t tell the whole story of what happened near the downtown Holiday Inn.
“That is only a small piece of the interaction and I think that is a key to understand.”
Officers can be heard screaming obscenities to get the people out of the car. A young woman is heard screaming.
Chief Burns says he is aware of allegations that the video seems to show one of the cops using his knee.
“I’m also mindful that in the heat of the moment when things are happening quickly in a perceived-threat environment, that that may appear to be what happened.”
What led up to this confrontation was a call about a possible assault at the hotel. Authorities say the vehicle involved refused to stop, and a cop with his arm in the window was dragged for a short distance.
