SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls School District is surveying parents on how they feel about their kids getting back inside classrooms this fall.
Schools Superintendant Brian Maher says the District wants a better idea of what the consensus is on re-opening.
“Where is that a real concern? How prevalent is that concern? I don’t have that data yet.”
What classroom learning will look like is still flexible, as the District adjusts to the ever-changing realities of COVID-19.
“I think it is very reasonable to expect that we will have students with coronavirus in August and September,” so Maher says the schools are developing options on how to handle sick students. Options could include just isolating the student, or perhaps closing the entire building.
Maher says right now, face masks for the kids are only recommended when they get back in the classroom, but that could change as circumstances dictate.
Maher says the school district could always switch back to remote learning if absolutely necessary but the hope is that face-to-face learning will work because that is the best way to teach kids.
