FARGO (KFGO.com) – Several hundred people turned out at Fargo’s Island Park for a peaceful protest and march to City Hall by a group known as OneFargo. The group wants answers to their demands for changes in the city. The protest and march came on Juneteenth, marking the end of slavery in the U-S.
The demands include creation of local police oversight boards that would not include law enforcement, requiring officers to undergo cultural diversity training, stopping the surveillance of activists, and ending the use of tear gas, rubber bullets and certain other police tactics.
Mayor Tim Mahoney, who attended the protest, says attempts to contact leaders of the group were unsuccessful.
Mahoney says he plans are to meet with the groups next week to discuss their demands and continue a dialogue to reach agreement on a number of issues.
