SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Authorities say a man who may have been underwater at Wall Lake west of Sioux Falls for 45 minutes is alive but in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The incident happened last night.
The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office says the man, in his 30s, was on a floatation device with two children.
The children ended up in the water and the man was trying to save them when he went under.
The children are ok.
Authorities say besides the Sheriff’s Office and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, private citizens the first to attempt to rescue the man.

WALL LAKE, S.D. (KELO.com) — A man submerged underwater for approximately 45 minutes is pulled from Wall Lake Tuesday night.
The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office responded along with rescue divers with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue to Wall Lake, west of Sioux Falls, shortly after 8:30 pm after receiving reports of a man drowning.
The condition of the man in his 30s is unknown.
The man, whose name and age is not being released, was transported by helicopter to Sanford Health.
More details are expected to be released during the Wednesday morning police briefing.
