SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) – PGA TOUR Champions golfers Rocco Mediate, Tim Herron, and Ken Tangiawa have officially committed to the Sanford International presented by Cambria September 7-13 at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Mediate won the 2019 Sanford International in dramatic fashion by finishing the final round with back-to-back birdies. Widely considered one of the best putters in golf, Mediate started Sunday three shots off the lead and tied for ninth before starting his comeback. The 2008 U.S. Open runner-up and six-time winner on the PGA TOUR lives with his family outside of Minneapolis.
A rookie on the PGA TOUR Champions this season, Herron played in 560 events on the PGA TOUR and won more than $19.6 million during his career. Herron, famously known as “Lumpy,” became the first player to record a hole-in-one at the inaugural 3M Open, held at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota. The Minneapolis native holed a 5-iron at the 209-yard 8th hole in the first round.
Born in Kobe, Japan, Tanigawa moved with his family to the United States when he was 5 years old. He grew up in southern California and was teammates with Scott McCarron and Brandt Jobe at UCLA. In his second season on PGA TOUR Champions, Tangiawa won his first major title at the 2019 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Oak Hill. Winner of the 2018 PURE Insurance Championship, Tanigawa became the fourth player with PGA TOUR-sanctioned victories at both Pebble Beach and Oak Hill, joining Jack Nicklaus, Curtis Strange and Cary Middlecoff.
