SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A Facebook group is organizing a candlelight service in honor of George Floyd, who died while in Minneapolis Police custody.
Here is what the organizer, Destiny Elder, posted:
“This event is to say goodbye to Mr. George Floyd. We have a lot going on that needs our attention and we need to separate things so that people can better understand that we are not just fighting exclusively for Mr. Floyd, but fighting against all police brutality and equality for black people. Please be sure to bring your children!!! The children are our future and we are not condoning or promoting violence. In fact we are spreading love peace and togetherness for our community so that our children won’t have to.”
The event is scheduled for 9 p.m. tonight in Terrace Park.
As of 2:30 p.m., 19 people said they planned to attend and another 12 were interested.
Sioux Falls Police spokesman Sam Clemens says the department is aware of the event.
