SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Daniel Haggar has taken the early lead in the GOP race for Minnehaha County State’s Attorney.
With 26 of 71 precincts reporting, Haggar had 51%, incumbent Crystal Johnson had 35%, and Paul Bengford had 14%.
The winner of the Republican primary will go on to be the next state’s attorney as there is no Democrat running.
This is the first contested election for state’s attorney since 1988 when Democrat Dave Nelson defeated incumbent Republican Tim Wilka.
Democrat Aaron McGowan, who resigned this summer, ran unopposed in his contests.
