Sioux Falls Police report that a large protest group ended up at the Empire Mall following the downtown rally for George Floyd this evening.
They said on Twitter, “Some people are throwing rocks and bottles at police officers.”
Mayor Paul TenHaken tweeted, “Please avoid the Empire Mall area. The protest has evolved from being peaceful and our officers and mobile field force are responding.”
The marchers also spilled over into residential areas.
One resident who lives near 33rd and Hawthorne said they heard loud music and yelling.
By 9 p.m., they had passed 33rd Street and Minnesota Avenue and were in the parking lot at the Empire Mall near 41st and Louise.
