SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A Sioux Falls resident was scammed out of $45,000 by a caller claiming to be from Microsoft.
Sioux Falls Police Detective Sean Kooistra said the scammer said they needed to access the victim’s computer remotely to fix a problem.
He says the scammer got into the victim’s computer and had access to all sorts of confidential information.
Kooistra says the victim panicked and paid the scammer $45,000 over three days.
Kooistra says companies like Microsoft will never call you up and ask to access your computer.
