SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Minnesota’s Memorial Day ceremony will go on this year, but in a virtual format to adhere to social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is sponsoring the program, produced by Twin Cities PBS-TPT. Broadcast at 7:30 p.m. on Memorial Day, it will feature remarks from Gov. Tim Walz, personal stories from Gold Star families, and a traditional rifle salute.
“The COVID-19 pandemic requires a new approach to our traditional Memorial Day events,” MDVA Commissioner Larry Herke said in a release. “This year we will mark this special day in a new and different way, but with the same goal: to honor and pay our respects to Minnesota Veterans who have passed.”
