SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls will reopen on Wednesday, May 20.
The zoo said in a statement the plan “minimizes contact at high touch point areas and includes social distancing measures.” It had been closed since early March due to coronavirus concerns.
Sioux Falls opened the door for the zoo to reopen when the city council loosened COVID-19 restrictions on businesses on May 7.
The zoo’s hours have been adjusted to allow extra cleaning. The zoo will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with last admission at 4 p.m.
“We are so excited to be able to open our gates again! While some areas are still closed to the public, we will be offering an outdoor experience for our guests that includes their favorite animals,” zoo CEO Suzie O’Meara Hernes said in a release. “We will continue to adjust our plan as the situation changes, but our main focus now is re-opening the areas that are safe to open and allowing our guests to continue building those relationships with the natural world.”
