PINE RIDGE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Governor Kristi Noem addressed letters to leaders of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and the Oglala Sioux Tribe demanding that checkpoints that have been set up on those reservations along state and US Highways due to the Coronavirus outbreak be removed.
Oglala Sioux Tribal President Julian Bear Runner says the state was aware of the tribe’s ordinance and expressed no objection.
The tribe has declined to rescind the ordinance.
Noem said she will pursue legal action if the checkpoints are not removed.
