SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Several downtown Sioux Falls Sculpture Walk statues were vandalized last night.
“It’s a kick in the gut that not only hurts SculptureWalk, our artists, and our volunteers but it hurts the whole city,” said Sculpture Walk Sioux Falls’ Jeff Hanson.
Hanson says the group is working with the BronzeAge Foundry to repair the baseball-themed bronze sculpture #14, “Day at the Park.”
However, he says but the Colorado marble sculpture #41, “Protection,” is a total loss.
“We are working to find a sculpture to replace that piece,” Hanson said.
The incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. last night.
Damage to the art works is estimated at $40,000.
This afternoon, Sioux Falls Police released stills from security cameras in the area showing a “person of interest.” He is a man in a beard and a ball cap.
Also, Hanson said US Bank had a number of panes of glass broken on its north side at 8th and Main around the same time last night.
