SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Experts and political officials in Sioux Falls continue to encourage people to wear masks when out in public to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Dr. Mike Elliott, chief medical officer at Avera Health, told the City Council Friday wearing a mask is important to protect those around you from contracting the disease.
“If I happen to have the virus, and I’m asymptomatic — and I am asymptomatic — I don’t want to spread it to you,” Elliot said. “That’s why everyone should be wearing a mask.”
Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken has worn a mask for the past several city council meetings. He challenged those attending an April 21 meeting to join him.
“I see two masks in this room; there should be a lot more masks on in this room,” TenHaken said at the time.
Both the mayor and health officials stressed the importance of maintaining social distancing to slow the spread of the virus, even if business restrictions are reduced.
