Des Moines, Iowa (KELO.com) — The Iowa Department of Health took to Facebook to send a reminder message out.
The Department says “don’t take heartworm medication to prevent or treat COVID-19.”
The popular medication is used in dogs and cats to treat heartworm.
At one point Ivermectin was used in COVID-19 research however it was done so in a petri dish, not in people.
The department is stressing to everyone the medication is sold for use in animals not humans and can cause serious damage if taken by humans.
