SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls School District is keeping in touch with parents and students via email.
Here is the email from 4/9/20:
Hello, Sioux Falls School District Staff and Families – We hope this message finds you and your family healthy, safe and successfully coping with this unprecedented situation.
As you know, on March 13th the COVID-19 situation created the need for SFSD to implement remote learning. With the Governor’s announcement on April 6, 2020, remote learning will continue for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Teachers are working hard to create meaningful learning opportunities to support students.
We recognize the challenges students, staff and families are facing during these unprecedented times. Families, we appreciate the support and encouragement you are providing your children to stay engaged in the learning process. Be patient. Help your child when you can. Contact your child’s teacher and/or principal with questions. Student learning may be through packets and communicating with your child’s teacher or may be participation in the online learning format.
+ REMINDER: There is no school on Friday, April 10, 2020, and Monday, April 13, 2020. That means there is no remote learning, school phones and emails will not be answered, and there will be no meals available on those two days. We can’t wait to serve students again on Tuesday, April 14, 2020.
+ The health and safety of students, staff, and families remains our top priority. Our school nurses have stepped up to develop a great resource for all things “health-related.” Use your time off from school to learn about how meditation, goal-setting, and healthy eating can improve your brain and body function! https://sites.google.com/k12.sd.us/healthathome/home
+ Outdoor activity is important, but please abide by the Mayor’s orders that all playgrounds, courts and fields are closed to group activities. Signs have been posted, but the District is still receiving complaints of people using basketball hoops and other items at schools.
+ April 1, 2020, was Census Day in SD. Residents were asked to complete the short questionnaire online to ensure adequate federal funding for schools, hospitals, roads, etc. As of yesterday, just over half of Sioux Falls residents (55.5%) completed the Census. Don’t delay! Please be counted!
+ SFSD continues to develop plans for milestone events and retrieval of personal items from schools. We will communicate these plans in the days and weeks ahead.
+ As we enter this break from remote learning, we hope your time with immediate family is meaningful and safe! Thank you for partnering with us as we strive to provide learning opportunities for students.
