SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Prior to the announcement this morning the Smithfield was going to shut down its pork packing plant in Sioux Falls over the weekend, Mayor Paul TenHaken said he had “heated” conversations with Smithfield officials.
The state health department says 80 coronavirus cases have come out of Smithfield. The union says it’s over 120.
TenHaken says Smithfield is in a tough spot.
He says the federal government wants them to stay open to keep the food supply steady.
And TenHaken says he wants to protect the public’s health.
This is a developing story.
