SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A highly frustrated Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken is highly critical of the State Legislature.
At Monday’s expanded veto session, lawmakers failed to give local governments more power, more leeway to fight COVID-19.
“In some ways, I feel like we are bringing a knife to a gunfight a little. We are being asked to lead on the local level, but without the full authority we need to lead.”
TenHaken is urging you to contact your lawmakers.
“If they voted Nay, I need you to reach out to them and express your disappointment, because it certainly hasn’t helped my ability to lead on the local level.”
The Mayor says he wants to protect against potential legal challenges if the cities decide to use stronger measures against the spread of the disease.
