PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) – During the week of March 15-21, a total of 1,703 initial weekly claims for unemployment benefits were filed with the Department of Labor and Regulation. This is an increase of 1,513 claims over the prior week’s total of 190.
“A large number of employers are announcing COVID-19 related layoffs, so we anticipate the number of new unemployment claims will continue to rise,” said state Labor and Regulation Secretary Marcia Hultman.
