PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — 14 of the state’s 46 cases of coronavirus are found in Beadle County, and Huron, making it the epicenter of the state’s activity.
County and city officials became the first in the state to close restaurants and bars, and a sense of anxiety has settled over that community.
Some highlights:
- Governor Kristi Noem says the inclusion of commercial labs to help the processing of tests has sped up the process greatly.
- Noem says her staff is examining the big aid bill passed in the U-S Senate.
- Sen. Mike Rounds voted for the $2.2 Trillion aid bill which now goes to the House for a vote Friday. Rounds says crafting a compromise was a lot of work.
- Rounds says one of the most important goals was achieved, in a program to give direct payments to people across the country.
- Rounds says another important goal was the program to make forgiveable loans to small businesses trying to keep their workforce together.
- Rounds says the program has restrictions to prevent abuse by large corporations.
- Sen. John Thune began to feel ill and returned to South Dakota. Rounds returned to the state as well, and says he went straight to the family farm to quarantine himself.
