SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls Police are now requiring citizens who need to report non-emergency crimes to do so via the department’s online reporting system.
This is to reduce first responders’ exposure to the coronavirus.
According to police spokesman Sam Clemens, these include crimes like: Harassing Phone Calls; Lost Property; Theft; Vandalism; Vehicle Vandalism; Theft; and Theft From Vehicle.
If a perpetrator is in the area, call the police as usual on 911.
Clemens says the online reports will go directly to detectives who will then followup first via telephone.
He also said that if someone has or suspects they have the coronavirus, they are instructed to reveal that so police and other emergency responders can put on protective equipment.
