SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County are working together to keep the area’s homeless population safe during the coronavirus pandemic.
Mayor Paul TenHaken said he and his staff are working with county officials to provide testing for people and temporary housing, food, and hygiene products for those who need to quarantine themselves.
“They’re not being tested and put back in a general population, in close quarters,” TenHaken said. “That’s a big deal.”
The mayor said some of the city’s population has already been tested, though a nationwide shortage of testing supplies may lengthen their wait for results. All of the people who were tested are currently quarantined.
Sioux Falls enacted several measures to slow the virus’ spread Thursday, including the closure of most city buildings.
