SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls officially approved a contract for the largest construction project in the history of the city Tuesday night.
The city council approved an agreement between the city and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. to upgrade the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
McCarthy will be paid 6 percent of the construction cost, which is expected to be $159 million.
The council voted 7-1 to approve the agreement.
Councilor Theresa Stehly voted no, arguing the city should slow down the project during the coronavirus pandemic.
Councilor Christine Erickson responded that the project should go ahead given how important wastewater treatment is for a city.
