BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Because of the unfolding coronavirus situation, the Brookings School District has suspended all non-essential activities.
Brookings School Superintendent Klint Willert says they have been working closely with the state health and education departments and their guidelines.
The restriction includes concerts, field trips, competitions, PTA sponsored events, and other similar activities until further notice.
The District has also suspended all facility use by non-Brookings School District organizations.
Willert says they have discussed e-learning but are not yet moving to that. He says there are many issues including families without access to wi-fi.
And, what if a parent chooses to keep their child home? Willert says they will respect that decision and work with parents. Also, students who have symptoms should stay home.
School Board President Van Fishback says they will be ready to hold emergency meetings should it become necessary. He also says the safety and security of students remains their top priority.
