The full statement is below:
Last night, we shared information regarding a case of coronavirus in Minnehaha County. We know now that the person lives in Hartford and has school-age children. Today, we have been learning about community locations those family members have visited recently, including some locations in Sioux Falls. At the moment, the state and local health department are conducting their investigations. They will provide us with the necessary steps to take. This is not cause for panic.
We continue to operate on a normal school schedule. We have reviewed cleaning procedures and ramped up the availability of cleaning products for classrooms. We are reminding students of proper hygiene, including washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, covering coughs, and staying home when they are feeling ill. While basic precautions, these are the most effective methods to prevent respiratory illnesses.
Even so, it is important that families discuss and plan for the possibility of an altered school schedule just as you would plan for inclement weather.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.
