SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — With a case of coronavirus in Minnehaha County announced today, Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken and several Sioux Falls health officials and leaders discussed what to do–and not do.
Earlier today, Gov. Kristi Noem said the state had five cases of coronavirus with one person perhaps dying from the virus in Pennington County. The other cases are in Charles Mix, Davison, and Beadle Counties.
Doctors from Avera Health and Stanford Health both said the most at-risk people are elders and those who have underlying health issues. They advised that people practice good personal hygiene, wash their hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, and increase social distance. They also said those in their 60s-80s should avoid large crowds.
Mayor TenHaken and others stressed the people should not panic and should not buy surgical masks or any more hand sanitizer, toilet paper, or bottled water than they would ordinarily need. They said that creates shortages and may prevent people from getting those items if needed.
