SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Janelle Revier, Culinary Arts Teacher at the Career and Technical Education Academy, was announced Monday evening as the 2020 Dr. John W. Harris Teacher of the Year.

Criteria for selection of the Teacher of the Year include:
• Commitment to lifelong learning
• Effectiveness in meeting students’ needs
• Impact on student achievement
• Effectiveness of home-school cooperation
• Community involvement to promote school-community relations
In the letters of nomination, students, administrators, and the Executive Director of the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation say, “As her student, I enjoy how she would always make class fun and enjoyable.
She consistently has a positive attitude with her mind set to teaching us something new. She humors us with culinary jokes and can relate to students when something happens.
She cares about our education but Mrs. Revier also cares about her students.
Revier is Teacher of the Year material because she constantly inspires her students to recognize their potential. These high schoolers showcased their talent in front of hundreds of community members.
The students shined, and these experiences bolstered their self-confidence. They were interviewed by media outlets, and guests enjoyed visiting with students. Revier invests in these young adults, and they continually exceed expectations.
They catered Public School Proud, and then one of the attendees at that event hired them for her business’s grand opening celebration. Success breeds success, and under Revier’s leadership, the Culinary Arts Program has continued to grow.
Revier is a dynamic champion and cheerleader for her students. Ms. Revier brings her “A” game to work with a positive approach, sincerity in her relationships, intuitiveness in her decisions, flexibility in heroperations and meticulous attention to details.
We wholeheartedly recommend Janelle Revier as the Dr. John Harris 2020 Teacher of the Year.”
