Former Minnesota Vikings Tommy Kramer and Rickey Young told classic stories about Bud Grant, Jerry Burns, Les Steckel and more in a trip to the KWSN studio during Friday’s “Sports Talk with Craig & John.”
You can hear the enjoyable 32 uninterrupted minutes right here in this podcast.
Kramer and Young will also be signing autographs at Woody’s Pub and Grill in Sioux Falls from 5-7 p.m. and The Crow Bar from 8-10 Friday evening, then on Saturay at the Stan Houston Equipment Woodworking and Power Tool Show on 12th and Kiwanis from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Kramer, named one of the “50 Greatest Vikings” of all-time, was the team’s starting quarterback from 1979-89, taking over for Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton and earning the nickname “Two-Minute Tommy” for his many late-game come-from-behind victories, including in the final home game of the 1980 season against the Cleveland Browns in which he threw a game-winning Hail Mary touchdown pass to Ahmad Rashad with six seconds left, a play dubbed “The Miracle at the Met.”
Young was a Vikings running back from 1978-83, leading the NFL with 88 receptions in his first year in Minnesota. He retired after the 1983 season as the NFL’s leader in career catches by a running back with 408. In nine full seasons — his first three in San Diego, his last six in Minnesota — Young gained nearly 7,000 total yards and 39 touchdowns.
