SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls City Councilors have been sharing their wish lists at planning sessions on the 2021 city budget.
Here’s a sampling:
Councilor Janet Brekke would like $100,000 for Lutheran Social Services to support English language programs for adult immigrants.
“We are about 3,000 behind. I mean, that’s the adult population in our community right now that is not English speaking. We are doing pretty well with the children.”
Councilor Theresa Stehly would like $50,000 for the Faith Temple Food Giveaway, so had Faith Temple Pastor Jeff Hayes in to talk about the program.
“Normally we give away about 25- to 30,000 pounds of food every week and that takes about 70 volunteers,” Hayes says the Giveaway started 11 years ago.
All the suggestions made at these working sessions will be put on a list in order of priority and given to city budget officers.
Mayor Paul TenHaken will present his proposed 2021 budget this summer.
