SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Minnehaha County Commission gets a look at the electronic monitoring bracelets the county jail wants to buy.
Warden Mike Mattson tells the Commission that the bracelets will allow qualified inmates to live at home and work to provide for their families.
Mattson says it will be tough to cheat.
“The only way to take it off is with a screwdriver. You pop the clips and it comes off. And if that happens, the system will detect it and we get an alert.”
Mattson offers the Commissioners a chance to put a bracelet on their wrist, but no takers.
“I certainly could, but I’m confident that it works,” says Commissioner Jeff Barth as some of his colleagues’ chuckle.
Scram Systems has been recommended to provide the home detention devices.
