There’s an old adage (or maybe it is just mine) that the way to a man’s heart is through bacon, or something like that.
The University of South Dakota men’s basketball team is hoping free bacon is a way to bring students to Wednesday’s home game against Western Illinois.
The team tweeted there will be a free bacon buffet in the concourse of the Sanford Coyote Sports Center, and free pizza will be available to students who attend, as well.
Then, at halftime, USD is hoping the crowd will set a world record for most people howling at once.
Get it — Coyotes… howling?!
USD is averaging 2,117 fans per game this season and 2,683 for Summit League games, which ranks second in the Summit Leauge (in both figures) behind North Dakota State (2,461 overall and 2,936 for league games). South Dakota State ranks third (1,969 overall and 2,666 league).
However, empty bleacher seats are more common than filled ones in the student section at USD, especially for weeknight games.
The Yotes’ 7-game winning streak and scoring barrage should be enough. The Yotes (18-8, 8-3) are one game back of the Summit Leauge lead, held by North Dakota State and South Dakota State (9-2).
Midco Sports Network is televising the game, which tips off at 7 p.m. You can hear the radio broadcast, and all Coyote men’s games, in the Sioux Falls area on Q-95.7 FM.
