SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — An improved graduation rate was one of the highlights as the Sioux Falls School District took stock of its recent progress.
The district received an update on its strategic plan during its meeting Monday night, checking in on a number of statistical benchmarks. A few of the takeaways:
– The graduation rate in Sioux Falls Schools is up about four percentage points from 2015-16 to 84.35%. The district’s target for 2020 is 85.55%.
– More English language learners in Sioux Falls are “on track to reaching the state’s goals for achieving language proficiency,” according to the district. 28% met that threshold in 2017-18; 46% met the benchmark in 2018-19.
– Third grade reading scores, a point of emphasis in the plan, have dropped slightly as of late. 43.47% of Sioux Falls third graders are proficient in reading compared to 49.03% of third graders statewide.
