SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A new report says the Sioux Falls metro area saw one of the highest growth rates of construction jobs in the nation in 2019.
The Associated General Contractors association study says Sioux Falls saw 11 percent growth in construction jobs, ranking it tied for 12th best rate in the country.
Meanwhile, the Rapid City metro area saw a slight loss of construction jobs last year.
Rapid City saw a two percent decrease in construction jobs, ranking it tied for 279th in the country.
“There are not enough qualified workers in many parts of the country for firms to be able to keep pace with strong demand for work,” said Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist. “Construction workforce shortages appear to be holding back further job gains in many parts of the country.”
