BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota State University is rolling out a new program letting students use their iPhones and Apple Watches instead of their student IDs.
SDSU has partnered with a service called Transact Mobile Credential which allows students to use their Apple devices for things like entering dorms and paying for food and laundry. The university says it’s the ninth campus nationwide to adopt the program.
“This project has been in process for over a year, and it is great to finally be able to release it for use to our students, staff and faculty,” Kendell Rohrback, the university’s campus card manager, said in a release.
The service is only available for iPhones with iOS 12 or higher and Apple Watches with Watch OS 5 or higher. Scanning devices are already in place at the university bookstore, residence halls, and other places around campus.
