SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — More people are golfing in the City of Sioux Falls.
Paid visits to the city’s three municipal courses were up 15% in 2019 compared to 2018, according to an update from city Parks and Recreation Director Don Kearney.
Kearney says total rounds of golf increased by about 11%, from 75,846 in 2018 to 84,441 in 2019. Season passes and punch passes also improved.
The extra visits add up to more money for the courses. No official numbers have been released, but Kearney said in an email to city councilors he expects a profit increase of about $100,000 from a year ago. It’s the second straight year the privately-managed courses have finished the year in the black.
Kearney said a new membership design, better course maintenance, and better online marketing were a few of the factors for the uptick in participation.
