SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Minnehaha County Commission is lobbying the 2020 State Legislature to approve what some call a ‘bed, board, and booze’ tax.
It would allow counties to impose entertainment taxes, for example, taxes on liquor. Cities already have the option to impose these taxes.
Commissioner Jeff Barth said its only fair.
“I’ve long been an advocate of raising the taxes on alcohol to cover some of the costs that alcohol causes county government,” Barth said.
Barth said alcohol-related crime and treatment keep growing in the county and the costs keep going up.
