SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Minnehaha County Commission has unanimously picked Crystal Johnson to be the county’s state’s attorney until the next election.
The county has been filling the hole left by Aaron McGowan. McGowan resigned amid concerns over unexplained absences and alleged workplace misconduct.
McGowan is a Democrat. Johnson is a Republican and was serving as interim State’s Attorney until the unanimous decision by the Commission on Tuesday to make her permanent.
Johnson is one of three announced candidates for the position in the November election. They’re all Republicans. The others are Paul Bengford and Daniel Haggar, both assistant Sioux Falls ci5ty attorneys.
The Minnehaha County State’s Attorney’s office is one of the busiest in the state, if not the busiest, especially with the spike in meth arrests and other crimes in growing Sioux Falls.
