SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Governor Kristi Noem says South Dakotans need to prepare for what could be another year of serious spring flooding.
The recent snowstorm was just another warning.
“All of our lakes, creeks, rivers are full. We don’t have any storage left and to continue to get this kind of snowfall going into spring is concerning.”
The ground is super-saturated and more snow will come this winter and that could add up to another rough spring, Governor Noem tells Kelo Radio’s It’s Your Business Show with Bill Zortman.
Farmers are still dealing with the impact from last spring. South Dakota had the highest amount of unplanted acres in the nation.
“We’re going to have to figure a way to get those acres back in production and continue to help, not just operations cash flow, but to get that soil back in shape too. It’s been saturated for quite some time,” says Noem.
