PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — Big Stone City Senator John Wiik has introduced a bill he’s calling, “preemptive legislation.”
Senate Bill 54 would prevent local government entities in South Dakota from banning cups, plastic bags, and plastic straws—a move that has been made in other areas of the country.
Wiik says it’s a fairness issue.
He says early indications are the bill will get a favorable reception in Pierre.
The first stop for the bill is the Senate Commerce Committee.
The legislature is back in session today.
