SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) –Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is asking you to dig out your neighborhood fire hydrant after the big snowstorm.
Fire Rescue took to Twitter to explain.
They say sometimes the fiberglass flags on the hydrants break off so having them scooped out makes them easier to find in an emergency.
Also, they say a three-foot ring removed around the hydrant is ideal.
The firefighters also say it doesn’t just have to be the homeowner who clears the hydrant out.
They say neighbors should feel free to help out and do it as well.
SFFR says the time saved in finding the hydrant could protect property or save a life.
