SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A strong winter storm is headed our way late Thursday night through Saturday morning.

For the Winter Weather Advisory, mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
For the Winter Storm Watch, blizzard conditions possible. Total additional snow accumulations of up to one inch. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph Saturday.
Snow will spread north across the area early Friday morning, becoming heavy at times from the morning commute through midday, with snowfall rates of an inch per hour possible at times.
Snowfall rates taper off through Friday evening, but light freezing precipitation could still fall during this time.
After midnight Friday night, the precipitation begins to shift east of the area.
However, west to northwest winds will become quite strong, with blizzard conditions possible late Friday night into Saturday in any area which receives more than an inch or two of snowfall.
If you have travel plans Friday into Saturday, consider altering your plans or avoiding travel altogether, and travel could become quite dangerous due to the snow-covered roads and potential for very low visibility at times.
