BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A Lake Norden man is facing a number of charges arising out of high-speed chase early this morning in Brookings County.
Authorities say while attempting to pull over Casey Lee Verhey, 32, for speeding in Volga, Verhey took off.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office speeds reached over 100 miles per hour during the case.
When Verhey went into the ditch, officers arrested him.
Verhey faces numerous charges, including drunk driving, eluding law enforcement, and speeding.

Pursuit Reported: Friday, 01/10/20 @ 0339
Location: Hwy 14 and Hansina Ave. (Volga, SD)
On the above date and time a Deputy from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 2011 Chevy Silverado that was travelling 61 mph in a 35 mph zone on Hwy 14 at Hansina Ave. in Volga. While trying to stop the suspect vehicle it fled traveling north on 464th Ave. The suspect continued north with speeds reaching in excess of 100 mph. The suspect ran stop signs at 204th St. and 201st St. The pursuit ended when the suspect went into the ditch at the intersection of 196th St. and 464th Ave. The suspect 32 year old Casey Lee Verhey from Lake Preston, SD was taken into custody and charged with DUI 2nd, eluding Law Enforcement, reckless driving, speeding, lane violations, and 2 stop sign violations. The University Police Dept., Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office, and Brookings Police Dept. assisted with the pursuit.
