SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Firefighters battle cold and windy conditions at a single-family home fire Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 2:45 yesterday afternoon, heavy smoke and fire was coming from the home at 3200 N. Highland Avenue.
Two people in the home evacuated safely and were at a neighbors house. They were checked by paramedics and found to be okay.
No one was injured, but a dog and two cats were found deceased.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind citizens to have smoke detectors installed on each level of their home and prepare and practice an escape plan.

At approximately 1442 hours on Wednesday afternoon, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to 3200 N. Highland Ave for a reported structure fire. First arriving fire units reported heavy smoke and fire coming from a single family home. It was reported that two people in the home at the time of the fire had evacuated safely and were at a neighbor’s house. They were checked by paramedics and found to be ok. Firefighters battled cold and windy conditions and had the fire under control in approximately 60 minutes. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported but a dog and two cats were found deceased. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 25 personnel, 5 fire apparatus, 3 support units. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to thank SFPD, SF Public Works, Metro Communications, Patient Care Ambulance, Red Cross, MidAmerican Energy, and XCEL Energy for their assistance.
