SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Butterfly House & Aquarium staff is showcasing some pretty cute creatures.
The Aquarium has 20 baby seahorses on display for the public to see.
The babies were born in July of 2019 says Michelle Coley, Aquarium Curator.
Coley says seahorse gestation lasts anywhere from 10 to 25 days depending on the species and they can have up to 2,000 babies at a time.
Male seahorses are the ones that carry the eggs within their pouch and the eggs hatch in the pouch.
The seahorses do grow in the pouch after they hatch but once they leave the pouch they are able to care for themselves.
