SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — For nearly four decades, the death of a baby boy abandoned in a ditch in what was then the outskirts of east Sioux Falls remained unsolved.
But on March 8, 2019, Sioux Falls Police announced that they think they solved the 38-year old case.
Through years of detective work and genetic testing sites like Ancestry.com, they charged Theresa Rose Josten Bentaas with murder in the first and second degree and manslaughter in the first degree.

At the time of the crime, an autopsy showed that Baby Andrew died from exposure to the elements.
Bentaas’s trial is scheduled for June 10, 2020 in Sioux Falls in state Circuit Court. If convicted, she could face life in prison.
