SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The KELO.com News team has selected what it believes are the ten most impactful stories of 2019.
“We decided this year to vote on the stories that may or may not have been the most important but had the most impact on people’s’ lives in our listening area,” said KELO.com News news director Todd Epp.
The KELO.com News team will produce individual radio and web stories on the most impactful stories tomorrow through New Years Day.
The top ten most impactful stories are:
1. The bad weather–blizzards, flooding, tornadoes and the cleanup and repair from the weather.
2. (tie) 38 years later, Sioux Falls Police arrest Theresa Bentaas in the death of a baby.
2. (tie) Crime in Sioux Falls–It seems like it’s going up or is it just a growing pain?
4. The “Meth. We’re on it.” campaign and backlash.
5. Sanford Health, Dr. Wilson Asfora sued, settle for $20 million.
6. The continuing poor agricultural economy.
7. Airplane crash near Chamberlain kills nine, injures three.
8. Some tornado sirens did not sound during the September tornado in Sioux Falls.
9. Vaping grows, targets teens, causes deaths and illness in the region.
10. Downtown parking ramp/Cooper Lounge fiasco continues.
HM. Meth and opioid abuse in the region.
